As the climate change began to affect Joel's farm, he saw his neighbors' success with coffee and decided to try planting varieties like Catuai and Costa Rica 95 in 2010. To his surprise, the seedlings began to thrive in the climate, and the family began to think it would be a good idea to return to coffee for a bit. At the same time, he had heard that new varieties were emerging, particularly Panamanian Geisha, which was growing exceptionally well. Joel felt he had to get his hands on this coffee and try it. Although he had previously disliked coffee, he found that Geisha gave him a different reaction. While coffee used to give him stomach aches, Geisha didn't affect him in the same way and was much more delicious. Joel became obsessed with coffee, especially Geisha, and even traveled to Panama to collect seeds for his Dota farm.
